Session 3 – Won’t it be difficult to share our faith?

Who it’s for?

Those who lack confidence in sharing their faith.

In particular, those who are discouraged by the faith-sharing assumptions in the previous sessions.

Opening prayer/worship (5 mins)

Explain: our main act of worship will happen later.

Warm up questions (10 mins)

Either:

Put yourself in the place of one of your friends:

    • What might they find attractive about the Christian faith?
    • What sort of context would encourage them to explore Christian spirituality?

Or:

What would be signs that someone is open to following Jesus in your context? How might you encourage them?

Videos: (20mins)

Pause after the first video to share the group’s reactions (5 mins)

Then use one of the Soulspace 10-minute options (cofe.io/soulspace).

Discussion (20 mins)

  1. What are your reactions to Soulspace?
    • Can you imagine using it as part of/at the end of an outreach activity?
    • Might you need to adapt it?
  2. Ask people to read silently the handout, ‘Four steps to a new congregation’.
    • Discuss it if you have time.
    • Or invite people to take it away and think about it.
  3. What shall we do next? Select from this menu of ideas, which are designed to spark the group’s thinking. (They are on a handout that you can print off and distribute.)
    • Look at one of the other sessions.
    • Watch the combined video, “Ch. 12. Why share our faith?” on website godsend.cloud.
    • One or two people browse the website sharingjesus.life or chapters 12 and 14 in Michael Moynagh, Godsend, and share what they found at the next meeting.
    • Explore with leaders of an outreach group in the parish whether they could sensitively add Soulspace at the end or discreetly during the meeting.
    • One or two people use Soulspace as part of their devotions and report how they found it.
    • Come up with a better next step.
Close with prayer and date of next meeting (3 mins)
